Family Outings: Making millefiori clay crafts with the kids

It's nearly impossible to make ugly millefiori, which is what makes the clay craft such a great fit for kids.I recently took my 9-year-old son to a class offered by artist Layl McDill at her studio in Northeast Minneapolis. We sat on stools around a long, high table made of clear Plexiglas with a half-dozen other children and a few parents. Chunks of polymer clay filled the middle of the table like squares of colorful bubblegum.

Artist's Reception Tuesday October 11th 5:00 to 9:00pm  Treats and Demos by the Artists.  Come and see Layl's "Baked Bikini" and "Fishy Handbag" plus over 20 works of art that play on the idea of wearable clay creations. 

Show runs through October 24th, 2011.  See the Textile Center's website for hours.

Clay Squared to Infinity was contacted last year by Fox Searchlight movie production inquiring about its Subway Ceramic Basket Weave tile pattern for the set of Caesar: Rise of the Apes. Clay Squared to Infinity provided the production team with 90 square feet of the tiles for the movie’s historic scenes.

So far this summer has been filled with travel for Layl and Josh has been busy in his studio with all kinds of projects. Layl went on a month long road trip to California.
