Inspiration: I was sketching from a magazine and drew a swan which ended up getting all kinds of interesting doodles added all around. I couldn't wait to make it into a sculpture. I loved the hidden and revealed world within the wings. This is one of my favorite aspects of creating- when several ordinary things- wings, windows, loops, etc. come together to make a something mysterious and magical. I hope it can make the viewer look at everything in their everyday life and see it as mysterious and magical.
Technique- The trick with this piece was that it was just slightly larger than my oven space. I made a very detailed armature and the sections that didn't fit in the oven- the spikes around the background aray and the legs had to be bent up to fit in the oven and then created with air dry clay.
