Monkey’s Pie Trick

Monkey’s Pie Trick photo

Created Summer 2010

Inspiration: This piece started with the mirror which is the background.  I decided it would be fun to build a scene around it and started with two trees with a vague idea of a bridge going between them.  As I built the piece the funny and nonsensical story came together.  I added a monkey and decided he was lowering something - how about a pie!  Then someone needed to be sitting below so I made a woman and then her hands were in a position to be holding something - how about a ball of yarn!  Then I wrote the crazy little story that hangs below: "We may never know why Monkey Lowered the Pie just as she unwound the ball of Orange Yarn."

Technique- The trees have a wire armature inside that also included wire that stuck out so that they could be attached through holes made on the wooden mirror.  I wired the bridge together with beads and small clay "boards".
