Inspiration: This piece started as a place for cats and dogs but then I realized the pose I planned didn't fit so I decided to fill it with a mother cat and her kittens. I just had a blast making all the playful kittens climbing all over.
The Rest of the Story:
In May 2011 this piece was stolen right in front of me! I was set up the Davenport Beaux Art Festival and having a nice morning when I looked down to work on the cane I was working on and then looked up again to talk to customers and noticed my piece that hung directly in front of me was gone! I went out into the crowd looking for it and the vendor next door told me he saw a woman in green carrying it away. The show coordinators and security did their best but the piece was never to be seen again.
It was hard to keep my spirits up for the rest of the show. I love it when a piece finds its home but this WAS not the right home for this piece! It was the first show the piece had ever been at and I felt like it didn't even get a chance to be seen and enjoyed by fair goers much less purchased.
I vowed to make the piece again so it would find it's correct home but the summer flew by and I still felt so disheartened that I didn't have the creative energy to create it.
Then in July I received a phone call from a customer down in Davenport (of all places!) who said she had seen the piece on my website and wanted to purchase it. I had to tell her the sad story but that I would be happy to custom make her a new one. She wanted it as a gift and it was perfect that she could choose the colors. I was thrilled! I set to work almost immediately and created the Cat Chair Number 2- which is even better and will be much loved!

This is the New Cat Chair created by special order. I'd be happy to make another if anyone is interested!
