She Blew the Doldrums Away

Created February 2010
$650
Inspiration- It was the middle of the winter and I was starting to get a tinge of winter blues when I started to dream up this girl. As she formed in my imagination and then in real life she literally blew way my winter doldrums and I felt myself setting sail again with my usual high spirits.
Technique- She was built separatly and baked twice (one with only hand and a head) The dress was made from a large sheet of polymer clay millefiore and draped over her armature. I must admit this was very challenging and in the middle of drapping it I nearly gave up and wadded it into a ball of clay but I persisted and gave up some of my perfectionism and it finally came together- perfectly! The background is painted and the butterflies and wisps are added on with appoxy sculpt which I also used to attach all the other parts. The curtians were extra fun to make with lots of glitter and motion!
