How a Polymer Clay Cane is Built

Everyone loves to Play with Clay!

Invite your Friends or a group of kids over to make a fun Silly Milly Project .  Just order the number of Silly Millies that each project calls for and then either gather all the other supplies or order them from the Silly Milly Online Store.  Then just follow along with the instructions to have a great time with Polymer Clay.

Party Projects to choose from:

Bracelets

Make simple stretchy bracelets at your party.  Everyone can share Silly Millies and end up with a fun bracelet of their own creation.  This one is great for beginners.

Supplies needed:

1 Silly Millies per person.

One piece of cardstock per person (to use as a work surface)

Slicing blade for each person (or share)

Toothpick for each person

One foot of stretchy cord for each person

Beads to go in between- small and colorful.  (at least 10 beads per person)

Baking pan

Super Glue (optional)

Order your supplies

What to do at your party:

1. Show everyone how to slice their Silly Millies and poke holes for buttons.  Remember these tricks:

Try one slice first.  Poke the hole and if it cracks the clay needs to be warmed up by gently rolling it in your hands.

Poke through most of the way and then poke through the other way to get a perfect non-puckering hole.

2. Show them how to roll the cane to get a smaller diameter if they want.

3. Share the Silly Millies around so everyone gets diffferent designs.

4. Bake at 275 for 30 minutes.  In the meantime check out the catalogs and fill out orders.

5.  When they come out string them on stretchy cord any way you want.  Using fun inbetween beads.  Put a bead with a big hole on last so you can tuck the knot into it.

6. Tie in good square knot (two or three is good) If you are worried add a dot of superglue to make it extra secure.

7. Wear your bracelets and show them off!

Pens

This is probably one of the easiest projects!

Supplies you need:

1 Silly Milly Per person

One or more pens per person (White Barrel Ink Pens)

One blade per person (or share)

One piece of cardstock per person to use as a work surface.

Order your supplies

What to do at your party:

1.Take the ink out of all the pens and set aside.

2. Show everyone how to slice thin slices and wrap it around the pen.  If the cane is older it may need some warming up in your hands so it won't crack with you add it to the pen.

Don't worry about gaps between canes or making it smooth until the whole pen is covered.  Share the Silly Millies to vary the design or use one to cover the whole thing.

3. Then just roll it on your work surface and the canes will roll together and smooth out.

4. Bake your pens at 275 for 30 minutes.  Meanwhile check out the catalogs and fill out orders.

5. Use the pens all the time and change the ink when it runs out.  Everyone will be jealous and want you to make one for them!

Frames

Everyone can be super creative here!  You'll be amazed how different everyone's will be!

Supplies you need:

1 Silly Milly per person

1 wood frame per person (no larger than 4x6)

Glue if frames are unfinished raw wood.

One piece of cardstock per person to use as a work surface.

2 oz of scrap clay per person.

One blade per person (or share)

Something to use as a roller (thick markers are great!)

Order your supplies (glue and rollers not included)

What to do before your party:

1. If the frames have lots of knots in them you may want to pre bake them to get some of the sap out.  Just put them in the oven at 275 for about 30 minutes.  This way the frames won't crack when you bake them with the Silly Millies on.

2. If your frames don't have any kind of finish you will need to prep the frames by covering them with a coat of Elmers Glue and letting it dry.  This will make it much easier to add the clay. (polymer clay sticks to a slick surface much easier)

What to do at your party:

1. Have everyone slice sheets of clay about 1/8th inch thick from their chunk of scrap clay.

2. Cover the front and sides and a little around the back of your frame with the scrap clay.

3. Gently smooth out the top and side with your "roller".

(don't worry it doesn't have to be perfect because you can add Silly Milly slices over any mistakes)

4. Slice thin slices from your Silly Millies to add in any kind of pattern around the frame.  Don't forget to show everyone how they can make their Silly Millies smaller by rolling it out.

5. Bake your frame at 275 for 30 minutes.  Meanwhile get out the catalogs and have fun filling orders.

6. Each guest can add a favorite photo to their frame, and enjoy it's uniqueness!

2. Slice your Silly Millies and put them together in any kind of pattern.

3. Bake for 30 minutes at 275.  Meanwhile check out the catalogs and fill orders.

4. After the creations have cooled use super glue to add on the pin back or the magnet.

5. Wear proudly the pins and stick the magnets on your fridge!
