Mermaid Wave

Created January 2007
36"x39"x6"
Inspiration: This idea was stewing in my mind all during my busy Fall selling season of 2006. I wanted to create a piece that could be viewed on three levels- first you would see the large wave shape, then you would see it is made of fish and a mermaid then upon an even closer view you would see that the fish are made of even more tiny pictures in the form of the millefiore slices. I didn't realize as I imagined it how large it would end up being. But when I realized it would never fit in the oven I began to plan how to build it in several pieces. In the end it turned out to be the largest piece I have ever made.
Technique: I created a detailed sketch and then figured out how I would break it into four parts and how these parts woudl seamlessly fit together. I had planned on permantly attaching it all together once it was done but I realized it would be impossible to transport the piece all in one piece so I decided to keep it in four parts. When I sold the piece in August of 2007 to a mermaid lover I brought the piece to her new house and hung it on the wall of her mermaid room.
