Cosmic Murals
Mural (myoor' el)n. 1. a large painting executed on or permanently affixed to a wall.– adj. 2. of, on, for, or like a wall.
Cosmic Murals are created with either abstract or semi-representational imagery in mind. Each mural is made by laying out the tiles and glazing the design. The tiles are then fired separately and reassembled for hanging.
The murals are concepts from many different sources, such as plants, fabric designs, aerial photography and inspirational art that Josh sketches from his travels. Custom commissions are also available to fit a site specific area or image. Cosmic Steamer Planet
Josh has been making a series of new cosmic's for his show at the Phipps Center for the Arts "Cosmic Musings" which will run from January 18th to February 18th.
Josh has been playing with bas relief and textures.

Cosmic Layered Planet
This planet is one of five Josh has been making a series of new cosmic's for his show at the Phipps Center for the Arts "Cosmic Musings" which will run from January 18th to February 18th.
Lots of subtle textures and color layering were used. Multiple firings in the kiln were used to create the effect.

This Cosmic Cloud Swirl was commissioned to go above a fireplace in Northfield, MN. All shapes and sizes can be made.

This piece was inspired by wall paper designs. Josh played with a different series of colors of neutrals and playful lines.

Space Fiddle
Josh's influence for the Space Fiddle is Karl Blossfedt's Black and White photography of plants. I did multiple firings of the piece to get the flashing of bluish purples and metallic finishes. interesting halos and finishes.

Hex Nebula
After being commissioned to do a piece that had geometric shapes Josh took the concept and started working with how certain shapes could be re arranged to create new negative spaces with the areas around the tiles themselves.

Blossfeldt Barley
Selected for the book 500 Tiles by Lark Books.
Josh has done a number of designs based off the work of Karl Blossfeldt, this one influenced by barley photographed by Blossfeldt. This work has many variations of iridescent silver and carmel colors. The silver metallic gives it a very graphic look.
